4th International Sustainable Buildings Symposium 18-20 July 2019 Dallas/ Texas /United States of America
The 4th International Sustainable Buildings Symposium (ISBS2019) was held on 18-20 July 2019 in the City of Dallas, Texas, United States of America in cooperation with Texas Tech University, Texas A&M UniversityCommerce, Ankara University, and Gazi University and in collaboration with the American Institute of Architects Dallas Chapter (AIA Dallas), and the US Green Building Council North Texas Chapter (USGBC North Texas). The North Texas Sustainable Showcase (NTSS 2019), co-organized regularly by AIA Dallas, and USGBC North Texas every year, hosted the ISBS2019 special to this year.
The symposium was funded by the silver sponsors ‘Türkerler Energy, Akça Energy, Maspo Energy, Zorlu Energy and Soyak Energy’, the bronze sponsor ‘Turkish Employers’ Association of Construction Industries (İNTES)’, the product and service sponsors ‘Aras Kargo, Hacıbekir Lokumları, Beko and Blomberg’, and the strategic partner ‘Turkish Society of HVAC and Sanitary Engineers’. ‘İHA, Interpress, Mimarizm, Mimarlık ve Tasarım Yayın Platformu, Yapı Mimarlık Tasarım Kültür Sanat Dergisi, yapi.com.tr, Branding Türkiye, and Journal of Popüler Bilim’ contributed to the event as the media supporters. In addition, Turkish Airlines was the official airline for the symposium.
Participation of over 150 attendees from 20 different countries (Turkey, USA, United Kingdom, France, Japan, Morocco, United Arab Emirates, Republic of Korea, Sweden, Colombia, Nepal, Egypt, İran, Iraq, Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago, Cameroon, North Cyprus, Bangladesh, and Pakistan) was implemented in ISBS 2019 & NTSS 2019.
The participant spectrum included, but not limited to; academicians, presenters from profit and non-profit organizations, local and state authorities, consultants, and news agencies. Several public entities of Turkey participated in ISBS 2019, including: ‘Turkish Republic Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning, Turkish
Republic Ministry of Foreign Affairs Consulate General of Houston, Turkish Republic Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Turkish Republic Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, General Directorate of Meteorology, General Directorate of Construction Works, General Directorate for Protection of Natural Assets, İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality, Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, Hatay Metropolitan Municipality, Van Metropolitan Municipality, Ankara Mamak Municipality, Ankara Altındağ Municipality, Manisa Alaşehir Municipality, Tokat Erbaa Municipality, Nevşehir Uçhisar Municipality and Turkish Radio Television Corporation (TRT)’.
The symposium brought together researchers, academic institutions, organizations, companies, municipalities, government bodies, non-governmental organizations, and other official and private institutional authorities operating in environmental technology and building sector from USA, Turkey, and the rest of the world. Conforming to the traditional ‘sustainability’ theme of the symposium, an exciting discussion and collaboration platform and forum in the fields of “sustainable building design”, “sustainable building materials”, “sustainable urban design”, “sustainability in engineering sciences”, and “environmental policies and practices”, which are cross-cutting and multi-disciplinary issues that concern all humanity, were created. Within these research fields, a total of 160 paper submissions were received of which 70 were accepted to be published in this symposium proceedings book after a double-blinded peer review process by the scientific committee. The symposium was held in parallel sessions for two full days. During the symposium, 111 presentations including 68 face-to-face presentations, 40 video presentations, and 3 conference calls were made with national and international participants. In one of the parallel sessions, a live broadcast connection was established with Turkey Tele1 TV. In another parallel session, CEO of Global GreenTag Americas Daniel A. Huard, held a workshop on a sustainability rating system "Well Building Standards". In addition, North Texas Sustainability Showcase (NTSS 2019) was held by AIA Dallas and USGBC North Texas Chapter with keynote speakers and a mobile vehicle for the use of sustainable building materials.
First time this year, ‘ISBS 2019 Sustainability Award-Best Sustainable Practices Competition’ was organized as part of the symposium program and is planned to be a tradition for all future ISBS symposiums. The jury was consisted of sustainability subject matter experts from Texas Tech University, Texas A&M University-Commerce, American Institute of Architects-AIA Dallas Chapter, U.S. Green Building Council- USGBC North Texas Chapter, Ankara University, and Gazi University. The jury had evaluated each project based on; sustainability, productivity and efficiency, environmental sensibility, feasibility, design, profit to public, application methods, partnership/stakeholdership structure, urban vision, comparison with similar projects globally, and new approaches in sustainability practices. The first prize in 15 categories and 3 Special Jury Awards were determined. The Award Ceremony was held on July 19, 2019 at the Crowne Plaza Dallas Near Galleria-Addison / Dallas-USA at the symposium gala accompanied by Texas local music Mariachi and the awards were presented to the winners.
During the symposium tour, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) was firstly visited and the participants were briefed on the city of Dallas, and Dallas architecture. Dallas Arts District was toured with the guidance of city and building experts of the Institute. An architectural city tour was held in downtown Dallas, which included a description of modern and historical buildings. Finally, the old cowboy town Fort Worth Stockyards was toured. ISBS 2017-3rd International Sustainable Buildings Symposium, March 2017 United Arab Emirates / Dubai
3rd International Sustainable Buildings Symposium - ISBS 2017 was held on 15-17 May 2017 in Dubai, with the participation of more than 150 people, hosted by The British University in Dubai. The symposium had contributions and participations from countries across the globe, including Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States of America, Australia, India, Iran, Morocco, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Sudan, Philistine, Denmark, Nigeria, South Africa and Portugal. The event was fortunate to have six prominent and renowned keynote speakers who enriched the symposium. In the symposium consisting of 25 sessions, 135 papers were presented as oral presentations. It lasted two days with parallel sessions held in five different halls. IV. It has been decided to hold the International Sustainable Buildings Symposium in the near future.

ISBS 2015- 2nd International Sustainable Buildings Symposium, May 2015 Gazi University / Ankara
ISBS 2015-International Sustainable Buildings Symposium was held with the participation of approximately 256 people, including lecturers from domestic and international universities, graduate students, managers and representatives of local and civil administrations, experts from public institutions and organizations, and construction sector officials. The international symposium was held with the contribution and participation of countries such as the USA, Germany, United Arab Emirates, China, Denmark, Morocco, Palestine, Netherlands, England, Switzerland, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, South Korea, Libya and Portugal. 8 invited speakers who are renowned sustainable building experts contributed with their papers and presentations. In the symposium consisting of 22 sessions, a total of 158 papers , 138 oral and 20 poster presentations, were presented. It lasted two days with parallel sessions held in five different halls. Some of the attendants in this symposium had been selected from our students and they were carried out their tasks very successfully. Akay Construction, Technical Support Group, Paksoy Technical Support Services, Kartallar Construction, Turkish Cement Manufacturers Association, TRT-Turkey Radio and Television Corporation, Vamos Sports Complex and TUBITAK-Turkey Scientific and Technological Research Council provided financial and scientific support to our ISBS 2015 international symposium. In the final declaration of the symposium, 3rd International Sustainable Buildings Symposium was decided to be held in Dubai in the first quarter of 2017.

Faculty of Technology, Department of Civil Engineering hosted the 2nd Earthquake and Sustainable Materials Workshop . This workshop was supported by the British Council. Provided financial support within the framework of the " Reducing Energy Requirements in Construction by Using Industrial By-Products " program. This workshop was carried out with the support of the above-mentioned project .
The opening speech of the workshop was delivered by Dean Prof. Dr. Mustafa Ilbas made it. The workshop was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering and Prof. Dr. Seyhan Firat. Prof. Dr. Mustafa İlbaş in his speech, explained that our faculty's contributions to such activities will always continue, that they will always support academic activities, and that our faculty especially contributes and supports to its students and faculty members. They stated the vision, mission and future goals of our faculty and the contribution of international studies to both academic life and our country.
In the workshop , especially the damages caused by industrial wastes to the environment, their economic recycling, the requisition of the legal obligations in this field, the problems caused by earthquakes and solution proposals, as well as new international cooperation opportunities were discussed.
RENEWBUILD 2013-International Conference and Exhibition on Application of Efficient and Renewable Energy Technologies in Low Cost Building Design and Construction, September 2013 Gazi University / Ankara
The international conference named RENEWBUILD 2013” was held on September 16-18 at the Conference Hall of the Faculty of Technology. The conference co-chaired by Prof. Dr. Seyhan Fırat, Prof. Dr. Abid Abutair and Prof. Dr. John Kinuthia was opened on 16 September. Dean of the Faculty of Technology Prof. Dr. Mustafa İlbaş also mentioned the importance of the conference in his speech. İlbaş also talked about the establishment process of the Technology Faculty and gave information about the faculty.
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, Prof. Dr. Seyhan Fırat thanked the faculty members, research assistants and administrative staff from the Faculty of Technology, Department of Civil Engineering.
Conference of Energy Efficiency in Buildings (Murat BAYRAM), March 2012 Gazi University/Ankara
Very valuable academicians who are internationally recognized in their fields, took part in the conference as speakers. Information on energy efficient buildings, green buildings, sustainable buildings, practices and barriers was told to the audience. At the reception given after the conference, the audience and the speakers had the opportunity to have plenty of conversations on the subject in a friendly atmosphere. Everyone left the Energy Efficient Buildings Conference, which attracted great interest, by learning a lot.
Conference of Energy Architecture ( Çelik ERENGEZG IR N), March 2012, Gazi University University / Ankara
The conference of the projects of Architect ÇELİK ERENGEZGİN (M. Sc), who is one of the leading names in the field of energy architecture in Turkey, was carried out. The efficient use of energy, which is one of the most emphasized issues of the new century, has been discussed in structural and design dimensions. Architect Çelik ERENGEZGİN supported his presentation with examples from his own projects. This conference was organized by Gazi University Faculty of Technology - Construction Student Club.
Ceramic Products & Ceramic Tile Seminar ( Çanakkale Seramik- Kaleseramik Education Foundation ), March 2012 Gazi University / Ankara
A seminar on “Ceramic Tiling” was given in cooperation with Gazi University, Çanakkale Seramik and Kaleseramik Education Foundation. Faculty members and students attended the seminar held in the conference hall of the Faculty of Technology. After the presentation of the educational seminar, one-on-one applications were carried out with the students in the laboratory.
Sustainable Buildings Workshop, May 2010 Ramada Plaza / Ankara
"Sustainable Building Workshop " was held on May 27, 2010. It was conducted by competent experts on "Sustainable Buildings", "Building Evaluation and Certification Systems", "Environmental Product Declarations" and "Life Cycle Assessment Method" .

ISBS 2010- 1st International Sustainable Buildings Symposium, May 2010 Ramada Plaza/Ankara
ISBS 2010-International Sustainable Buildings Symposium was held with the participation of approximately 350 people, including lecturers from domestic and international universities, graduate students, managers and representatives of local and civil administrations, experts from public institutions and organizations, and construction sector officials. The international symposium, which was held with the contribution and participation of countries such as the USA, Germany, Denmark, Morocco, South Africa, the Netherlands, England, Spain, Switzerland, Qatar, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Macedonia, Portugal, Romania, Chile, and Thailand, was attended by 16 world-renowned sustainable building expert speakers who contributed with their papers and presentations. In the symposium consisting of 22 sessions, a total of 175 papers, including 119 oral and 56 poster presentations, were presented with simultaneous translation. The presentations, consisting of 45 English and 130 Turkish papers, lasted for two days with parallel sessions held in four different halls. Everyone in charge in this symposium were selected from our students and it was carried out very successfully.
