With the honor of being a part of our university, named after Gazi (M. Kemal Atatürk), the first education institution that trains the pioneering teachers of the Republic; acting with the responsibility of being one of the firsts of the Faculty of Technology, Civil Engineering Department; our mission is to raise individuals who have a researcher, questioning, analytical mindset and respect human values, and contribute to the lifelong education and development process of the society by producing, sharing and transforming knowledge into life.
History of the Department
With the decision of the Council of Ministers published in the Official Gazette dated 13.11.2009 and numbered 27405, Gazi University Technical Education Faculty was closed, and the Faculty of Technology was established. In the 2010-2011 academic year, the Department of Civil Engineering started education and our first graduates were delivered in the 2013-2014 academic year.
Purpose of the Program
To provide students with basic information about construction technologies, to develop their creative thinking, to gain research, planning, design, and application skills; thus, to have graduates who can think, develop themselves, analyze, synthesize, and who are inquisitive, socially developed, beneficial to the country and society.
Engineering Education
It is aimed to train students in two ways, theoretical and practical. With this feature, it differs from other engineering programs in our country in the field of technological knowledge and application. To improve the engineering competencies of the students, both the laboratories available within the department and the opportunities of the construction sector operating in our country will be used. For this purpose, our students will be offered the opportunity to work in their preferred field in the construction sector for one semester in the last year in order to adapt to the working conditions in the sector.
Our department is based on Turkish education. Education and academic studies continue with 8 Professors, 4 Associate Professors, 4 Assistant Professors, 2 lecturer, and 9 Research Assistants. In our department, there are programs such as Double Major Education, Minor Education, Farabi Exchange Program, and Workplace Training. There are also Master and Doctorate programs for our students who have completed their undergraduate engineering education. Increasing the quality and quantity of the number of students enrolled in the master and doctorate programs, and supporting the R&D studies by focusing on graduate studies are among the goals of our department.
In our department's laboratories, one student is currently employed on a part-time basis. Thus, our students are provided with additional income and it is aimed to increase the experience and knowledge of our students.
Employment of Our Graduates
Our graduates have the opportunity to work in public institutions and organizations such as; constructions of superstructure and infrastructure, highway, railway, subway, bridge, tunnel, dock, dam, irrigation, wastewater treatment, concrete plants, material and concrete laboratories, architecture, and construction offices, building inspection and contracting companies, soil survey companies, etc.
